BAY RIDGE – An overflow crowd of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn students, staff members, families, alumni and supporters joined several notable community leaders for an evening of live holiday music, hot cocoa, holiday cookies and a special tree lighting ceremony on the grounds of the historic Academy at 8515 Ridge Boulevard on Thursday, December 13th, 2018. The event was generously sponsored by Northfield Bank.

The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony served as a chance to shine a light – literally – on more than 150 donors who had already sponsored real, 6-foot-tall trees on the Academy’s grounds to benefit Adelphi’s award-winning Project Succeed program for college-bound students with special needs. These special trees were illuminated with striking white lights. Also lit as part of the annual event was Adelphi’s majestic 40-foot school community tree, upon which several unique ornaments were hung by representatives of Adelphi’s Lower, Middle and Upper School, as well as Adelphi’s Faculty and Staff, parent body, alumni and members of the community as part of a special ceremony. The school community tree was the only tree on campus that featured colored lights, signifying the diversity of the Adelphi school community.

State Senator Marty Golden was in attendance, as was Merchants of Third Avenue Co-Treasurer Brian Chin of Northfield Bank, the evening’s sponsor. Members of the Ben-Bay Kiwanis Club were also in attendance, including President James Orlando and past President Joseph Mure Jr. All of the evening’s guests and families in attendance enjoyed a special performance by Adelphi’s talented Performing Chorus accompanied by alumni, faculty & staff.

“Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s Annual Holiday Tree Lighting allows families to come together and share in the spirit of the holidays as we say thank you to all of those generous donors who sponsor a tree in support of Project Succeed,” said Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos. “Excitement was definitely in the air as everyone counted down together as more than 150 trees were lit for all of Bay Ridge to see!”
