The Adelphian Winter 2021

4 Goodbye, Autumn By Reena Korkidas, Grade 9 Autumn leaves pass by, Floating through the wind Boys and girls outside, Dressed in plaid print The air and trees are becoming more thin You can almost remember what they looked like if you just squint The crunching and munching — I think I see a firefly Don’t leave me without something, Autumn Please don’t say goodbye Autumn Day By Skyla Iuele, Grade 9 Apples are growing on lots of trees Up above the leaves are falling down The air is cool and breezy as I walk around Under a tree I stop and sit My hands make crunching noises when I squish the leaves Nuts are falling for the squirrels from the trees Dogs are running and barking all around All the kids are playing together Yay! It’s Autumn! A Fall Story By Ilona Makovetskaya, Grade 12 The sky and the ground were filled with the swarming leaves in colors like burnt sienna, mahogany brown, red, orange, maroon and deep yellow. The windows, front lawns and roofs of homes were already stuffed with Thanksgiving decorations. The air was crisp and bitter, with a gentle and warm breeze swirling around. All of this filled Heather’s eyes as she was off to get coffee and bagels first thing in the morning for her family. This early fall scenery was a sight one didn't want to miss and then think of weeks, or even months, after the beautiful colors had passed. Heather stepped onto the intricately designed leaves and watched them crinkle to pieces under her boots. Their crunches filled the early morning air, breaking the silence with each crunch. Heather opened the door to the bagel shop and everything ended with the jingling of the little bell hanging atop it in the corner. The colors stopped, only to begin again shortly thereafter.
