Oracle Fall 2021

By Yura Izachik, Grade 12 Ring, ring, ring! That’s the bell! Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn officially opened its doors to stu- dents, faculty and staff to begin the Academy’s historic 159th academic year on Monday, September 13th. There was much excitement and anticipation in the air. “The first day of school is always exciting, but this year is extra spe- cial,” Adelphi Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos said. “After prov- ing that we are all ‘Adelphi Strong’ by completing our successful 2020-2021 academic year together inside the Academy’s hallowed halls, we are pleased to be offering full in-person learning once again to all of our stu- dents and their families. Rest assured that Adelphi has continued to take appropriate measures to ensure a safe and healthy academic year for all Adelphians!” Those measures include infor- mational signage directing students and parents to four different en- trances to reduce congestion, and hundreds of customized floor de- cals in place throughout the grounds and inside the building promoting social distancing. Sani- tizing stations remain located at every entrance and outside every room, daily temperature checks are made before entry to the building, students and staff are wearing masks throughout the day, and classrooms are being sanitized in between each class. On the first day of school, all students gathered inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre, eagerly waiting to head upstairs to their classrooms. Throughout the school day, Adelphians were given a chance to introduce themselves to each other, as well as the faculty members. They participated in ice- breakers and brain teasers that were very fun and interactive. These games were designed to help create a sense of comfort and camaraderie in the classroom. Upper Schooler Antimo was glad to be back and enjoyed the day’s activities. “I was very excited to see every- one and make new friends,” he told the Oracle . It was also announced that the official theme for the 2021-2022 academic year is “I Am Adelphi.” Students and staff were excited to see how the theme would be incor- porated into daily learning as well as special projects throughout the school year. Class of 2022 member Maksim was especially excited to begin his senior year. “Wow! Senior year has finally arrived!” he said. “I’m so excited to see what this year has in store for us.” V O L U M E L X X I I , I S S U E 1 THE ADELPHI ORACLE INSIDE THI S I SSUE : Founded 1863 8515 Ridge Boulevard Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York 11209-4307 We’re on the Web! adelphi.org Follow Us @adelphiacademy Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn School News 1-13 Interview with a New Adelphian 10 Of the Months 12 Entertainment 14-15 Fashion 15-16 Sports 17-18 Science 19 Talkin’ Tech 20 Gamer’s Guide 20 Food 21 Beauty 22 Comics 23 Puzzles 24 F A L L 2 0 2 1 Students in Ms. Fregara’s class get to know each other on the first day of school!
