Oracle Summer 2021

By: The Oracle Staff Congratulations to Adelphi Acad- emy of Brooklyn’s Class of 2021! Members of this year’s graduat- ing class took part in the Academy’s 151st Commencement Exercises on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Thea- tre. The new graduates are looking forward to continuing their academic careers in college and pursuing a variety of rewarding career paths. Class of 2021 Valedictorian Wil- liam delivered an inspiring address, as did Salutatorian Ilona. Both looked back at their time at Adelphi and high- lighted their experience as Production Manager and Co-Managing Editor, respectively, of The Adelphi Oracle . Both were honored to receive Adelphi’s prestigious Margaret A. Lowrie Award, named for a beloved English teacher, for their excellent work with the Oracle over the years. Co-Managing Editor Susan also received the coveted award. In his remarks, William presented some important advice to his fellow graduates. “We shape our own experiences, so the more prepared we are, the more open-minded, the more we think out- side of and inside of the box and the more we try new things, the more rewarding those experiences will be,” William said. “As you are going down your path, you will take all you know from the past. That is how you create your future!” William will be attending NYU Tandon School of Engineering in the fall to pursue his dream of becoming an architect. Ilona urged her classmates to never forget the lessons they’ve learned at Adelphi. “Let us remember to take Adel- phi with us everywhere we go as we make our mark on the world,” she said. “We have learned and experi- enced so much from our home away from home, Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn. May Adelphi’s Pride, Tradition, Spirit, and Excellence live on and flourish!” Ilona will be attending Baruch College in the fall to pursue a degree in business. As part of a very special presenta- tion, Director of Academy Operations Mr. Albert C. Corhan spoke about Class of 2021 member Erika’s ongoing work to create an Adelphi art collection composed of her original pieces high- lighting the Academy. Then he and Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Ro- manos unveiled an incredible painting done by Erika depicting Adelphi Acad- emy under snowfall. The talented artist was then presented a very special award in recognition of her efforts to create the new collection. “Art helps make your surroundings more colorful,” she said. “I’m glad to be able to do that for Adelphi.” Continued on page 2 V O L U M E L X X I , I S S U E 4 THE ADELPHI ORACLE INSIDE THI S I SSUE : Founded 1863 8515 Ridge Boulevard Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York 11209-4307 We’re on the Web! adelphi.org Follow Us @adelphiacademy Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn School News 2-10 Summer Scoop 3-6 Interview with the Editor-in-Chief 9 Entertainment 11-13 Fashion 13 Sports 14 Science 15 Talkin’ Tech 16 Gamer’s Guide 16 Food 17 Beauty 18 Comics 19 Puzzles 20 S U M M E R 2 0 2 1 Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos (center) and Director of Academy Operations Mr. Albert C.
