BAY RIDGE – When it comes to sporting a holiday sweater at Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn, the uglier the better! Students, faculty and staff came to school in Thursday, December 20th, 2018 in the most adorably ugly sweaters they could find – or create – as they competed for top prize in the Academy’s Annual Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest, held inside the John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre. Students from Pre-K through 12th Grade walked the runway inside the auditorium to loud cheers, showcasing their sweaters in an effort to impress a panel of judges and come away with a prize.

After each student had walked the runway, the judges deliberated and compared notes to determine the winners. Third prize was awarded to Lower Schooler Marcella, whose sweater featured colorful ornaments. Upper Schooler Kyle was awarded second prize for his sweater, which featured reindeer, snowmen and snowflakes. First prize went to Middle Schooler Matthew, who came to school in a sweater covered in tinsel, holly and ornaments!

Members of Adelphi’s faculty and staff also participated in the contest and walked the runway in their best and ugliest sweaters. Senior Student Advisory Board members Arber, Anthony and Natalie served as judges for the faculty contest and awarded top prize to Ms. Alvarracin for her festive and cheerful outfit.

When it comes to holiday sweaters, the uglier and funnier the better! I congratulate all of this year’s winners and encourage everyone to participate again next year!”
