Another highlight of the event was the appearance of Class of 2020 members Albert and Ariel, who came to support the artists. Albert’s work was also featured in the display. “It was so great to see the Adelphi alumni come and support this beautiful event,” featured artist and Class of 2021 member Ilona said. “I am so proud of eve- ryone who participated with me for show- casing their artwork.” The event also featured work from other local artists as well as promotions from members of the Fifth Avenue BID and live performances from Bay Ridge musicians. Mr. Devigne himself starred as one of the event’s featured musicians. “For about 20 years I was in many rock bands,” he revealed to the Oracle . “I’ve played hundreds of shows over the years. My main musical influences are guitar-heavy classic rock from the ’60s and ’70s, punk rock and metal from the ’80s, and the blues.” The featured Adelphians created a strong impression on Mr. Devigne, who said, “[It was a] beautiful setup and very profession- ally done! The artwork was spectacular, and it’s great to see young adults taking their artistic endeavors seriously.” By: Erika Xiang, Grade 12 It was a great honor for me to be one of Adelphi's featured student artists at the “Street Moments” event on Fifth Avenue! Some of my detailed artwork was selected to stand on the display table. Most of my pieces are about realism and they are really detailed; many took me a lot of time and patience. One of my favorite pieces was pre- sented and many people passed by and were impressed by it — the Adelphi ring I painted for the Class of 2021’s Junior Ring Ceremony. The ring is realistic. It has a beautiful ruby color and metallic ring holder with a panther engraved on the side. “Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn” was sewn on the muslin that was used as the back- drop. Another piece that makes me proud is my Maserati sketch. I sketched that real- istic car in pencil within three hours. It could be counted as my fastest realistic drawing piece. When I got to the “Street Moments” event, there was already a crowd standing along the street because of the showcase. I was given several pictures of the restau- rant Skinflints from different angles, which helped me a lot to observe the de- tails of the building. When I started to sketch out the draft of the restaurant, some people walked up to me and asked, “Are you selling the drawing?” This made me giggle and I took these words as compli- ments. The restaurant owner Mr. Bell liked my sketch and I received so many compli- ments from the crowd while I was work- ing on it. These compliments made me confident and I finished my work right on the spot. The work came out beautifully. My classmates and teachers were speech- less when they saw the finished product. I am thankful for experiencing such an honor and this event made such a deep impact on my high school life.
