Oracle Summer 2020

Lockdown Fashion The global pandemic has affected many walks of life, including the fashion world. With the lockdown prohibiting any fashion shows from occurring in person, many brands decided to turn to online streaming for their fashion shows. Brands like Mai- son Margiela, Rhude, Versace, Johanna Ortiz and many more have gone to stream these fashion shows exclusively online. Fashion companies were quick to adjust to the pandemic, in good ways. We’ve found alternate ways of making these experiences more public and wide- spread. Now people at home are able to feel the electricity of being in front of the runway. It’s not only runway shows, it’s safety wear, too. There are many brands making their own facemasks and selling them online for consumers. Some brands even state that all mask proceeds will go to charity to help fund research to defeat COVID-19. It seems as if the whole fash- ion world has come together to thrive, whether at home or in Paris. The question is, how long will brands have to worry about having to showcase their collections in this format? It may be easy for big name brands to just continue and get recognition and views online, but smaller brands may struggle. A lot of smaller brands rely on retailers like Nord- strom, Saks and Neiman Marcus, all of which have been closed since April. This lockdown may prove that the fashion retail world needs to change for good. Mangia! If you love Italian food (who doesn’t?), then you’ll love this recipe for classic spaghetti and meatballs.
