P A G E 2 2 , T H E A D E L P H I O R A C L E , W I N T E R 2 0 2 1 Makeup Tips and Tricks Let’s talk about makeup, one of my fa- vorite topics! I do my makeup every single day, so for me it's important to have products that are lightweight, provide full coverage and stay on my face until I get home to wash them off. Personally, it is also important for the products I use to not be filled with chemicals and harsh products that have no business being on my face! Here are some tips and tricks I use when applying my makeup, using products I trust without breaking my bank account. The first step is using a good primer. This is used to initially protect your face from all the product you are about to apply, so it has to fill your pores so your makeup application is easy and smooth. My favorite primer is the Too Faced Peach Perfect primer. I love this primer! It smells so good and makes my makeup application flawless. Step two is applying foundation. Per- sonally, I don’t like to use foundation be- cause it feels too cakey on my face; in- stead, I use a BB Cream or a tinted mois- turizer. My all- time favorite BB Cream is the Purlisse Perfect Glow BB Cream. It covers everything, but it still makes me look so natural. Step three is applying concealer. I tried so many concealers — Tarte, Kylie and others, both expensive and affordable. I personally love the e.l.f. Cosmetics Camo Concealer. I could use this without BB Cream and enjoy overall amazing coverage. It also comes in a variety of different shades, which I love. Step four is powder. It can get very oily in your T Zone (forehead, nose and chin), so for me to set my face with powder it’s very important I have two top powders. A powder that I use for my whole face is the Too Faced Peach Perfect Translucent Perfecting Powder. This is my favorite, but on special occasions when I want a second coating I like to use the NARS Light Reflecting Pow- der. After this I have one more step: I put on lip gloss and that’s it! One recommendation that I could give if you use a Beautyblender is to buy the Billion Dollar Beautyblender Sponge. No, it’s not actually $1 billion, but it will make you feel like a billion dollars! Tik Tok Makeup Product Review It’s taking Tik Tok by storm, so let’s take a look at the e.l.f. Matte Putty Primer. To blend out this primer, I used my Sephora VIB Rouge Pro Mini Flawless Airbrush. I can describe the texture of this product to be very smooth and silky. It was not at all cakey or thick, which I liked very much. The only flaw to this product is that it is not cooling. I do my makeup in the morn- ing and I like to have a cooling and hydrat- ing primer that can reduce puffiness and also hydrate my skin. On the other hand, this primer did what it was supposed to do. It held my makeup for long-term wear. Overall, this is a great prod- uct. I wouldn’t use this every day, but for parties and special occasions where I need to wear my makeup for a long time, this will be a great primer. The final rating is a 9 out of 10. This product is 100 percent Elana-tested and definitely Elana-approved! The e.l.f. Matte Putty Primer is taking Tik Tok by storm! She has created so many beautiful works of art during her time at Adelphi, and they have left a great impression on her fellow Adel- phians. Her painting “Doctor Schnabel” is among her favorites and it shows off her playful artistic skills. Looking at the artwork, a per- son wearing a bird mask is holding a poppy flower with a ray of light in the background. It is interesting at first glance, but this paint- ing actually bears great historical signifi- cance. The person depicted is actually a 17th century plague doctor called Dr. Schnabel whose medical techniques would be used to treat thousands of people during the plague. Doctors at that time wore a thick black hat on their head, a mask like a giant beak, white gloves on their hands, and a waxed linen or canvas shirt as protection from the plague. Holding a wooden stick, they used to move the sheets or clothing of plague-afflicted patients to avoid contact. Luana told the Oracle that she put a lot of work into selecting the concepts of her paint- ing. “I have the doctor holding the poppy flower, which represents death,” she said. “The doctor was pulling people out from death. There is a flash of light on the left top of the painting because the doctors were just like the sunlight and brought people hope. “I chose to explore the idea of the Black Death and this painting is much different than the other random pieces I’ve created. The paint presents a grayish tone that per- fectly matches the figure I drew.” Beauty Unfiltered The ‘Art’ of the Matter By: Erika Xiang, Grade 12 By: Elana Sosnova, Grade 10 “Doctor Schnabel” by Luana Lin San
